Thailand Launches Hormuz Task Force, Oil Fund Bleeds 42 Billion, and a US Warship Docks

When your government needs a task force to rescue cargo ships and a warship shows up at your port the same week, the diplomatic temperature is running at least as hot as the weather.

Saving Stranded Ships

Thailand has approved a new integrated task force to help stranded commercial vessels leave the Strait of Hormuz safely, according to Nation Thailand. Multiple ministries are coordinating what amounts to a maritime rescue operation for Thai-flagged and Thai-crewed ships caught in the conflict zone.

The urgency is real. Thai vessels carrying essential cargo — including fuel — are stuck in one of the world's most dangerous waterways, and each day of delay costs money, creates supply chain gaps, and puts crew lives at risk.

42 Billion and Counting

The Oil Fund deficit has now exceeded 42 billion baht, according to Nation Thailand. The Energy Ministry's argument that Thai fuel prices have risen less than regional peers is technically true but increasingly academic — when cooking oil, electricity, and transport all cost more, the relative performance against Cambodia doesn't pay anyone's bills.

Rodtang Jitmuangnon and Takeru Segawa have set their rematch for April 29 in Tokyo, with the ONE interim flyweight kickboxing world title on the line, as reported by Nation Thailand. At least someone's fighting for something concrete.

The USS Blue Ridge Arrives

The US 7th Fleet's command ship USS Blue Ridge docked at Laem Chabang, with its captain reaffirming the "free and open" Indo-Pacific commitment, according to Nation Thailand. The visit highlights the maritime security dimension of Thailand's alliance with the US — particularly relevant when the Hormuz crisis is threatening global shipping lanes.
